Later as the building fell derelict we explored the building before it was eventually demolished.

Great blog post!

Bernie Davis
Still in IlfordAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-995615252839539172.post-46192773506658603282011-05-26T18:19:56.309+01:002011-05-26T18:19:56.309+01:00This is my favourite post from Jet. Nice to hear some old tales about the area, it did seem to be a characteristic place.garethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08883789075344765066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-995615252839539172.post-3061369807523446152011-05-15T10:07:20.975+01:002011-05-15T10:07:20.975+01:00Thanks for sharing these great stories Jet!Thanks for sharing these great stories Jet!eric vonxhttp://facebook.com/eric.vonxnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-995615252839539172.post-20467742205431543632011-05-14T21:03:08.517+01:002011-05-14T21:03:08.517+01:00Nice piece, a good read, very interesting.
Re ...Nice piece, a good read, very interesting.
Re 'GIG No.2', for the past 8 years I have worked (unfortunately!) in Canary Wharf. Being from Edinburgh originally & not moving to London until the mid-80's, I often wonder what the place looked like years ago, when out walking along the Thames Path in my lunch hours. There are still small signs of the original Docks all over the place, together with brass plaques at various intervals, telling anyone thats got an interest in the history of the place 'what stood here' or 'what used to happen here'. Really interesting for anyone who likes that sort of thing, especially alongside the giant ultra modern glass towers that populate the area today. There's still a mixture of 'council' housing next to £500,000 apartments, but the remaining boozers are no good, I've tried them all & 99% of them are now 'plastic' wateringholes. One remaining good 'un is 'The Grapes' on Limehouse side of the Isle,
http://www.grapeslondon.co.uk/
does a fantastic fish & chips, best I've found in London, nearly as good as Castle Rock in Edinburghs Grassmarket (the worlds best!)
but even the dear old 'Gun' has succumbed to change & is now a gastro pub. Sacrilege!
http://www.thegundocklands.com/index.php/history/
Thanks Jet for an interesting read.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-995615252839539172.post-65370925798333073612011-05-14T18:20:21.581+01:002011-05-14T18:20:21.581+01:00Yet another great read and insight into the past, ...Yet another great read and insight into the past, Thanks!! Did you ever play in the Widows Son in Bow???
